I have used many different measuring tools, however, I have not found a compact storable option. For this project, I want to design a Multi-Size Measuring cup that is compact and storable. I am designing a measuring cup that will be adjustable to different measurements. I have gone through many strategies and designs for the measuring cup so I needed to determine the specific sub-assembly that will accomplish my design intent. I will use the chosen module to analyze each component of the subassembly and the forces that act on them.
I am assuming that the user has the ability to use both of their hands and the user can slide the cylinders by themself. The measuring cup will be used for normal kitchen ingredients, will remain away from direct sunlight for most of the time. Will not be exposed to high heat or freezing temperatures.
The decision matrix above analyzes all three concepts by comparing the most important aspects of my intended design which are: cost, size, accuracy, and manufacturability. Each aspect was given a weight according to their importance to the design with accuracy carrying the most weight.
Module 1 turned out to be the best sub assembly. It is the most accurate design which was the criteria with the highest weight but it also the best well-rounded.
Module 2 overall solved all the problems and scored the very high in most areas but did poorly in terms of cost. It did not receive a 5 in accuracy because if the cut on the device is wrong the user cannot adjust it fro there.
Module 3 scored the lowest because it was just average, it did not do one thing better than the others. It as design works but just underperforms compared to the other designs. Also, the actual use of this design would take more time to complete the task than any of the other two designs.
This Gantt chart outlines my scheduled process for this project. I will continue updating as I learn more about the other assignments. A link to the full Gantt chart is located below
Once again, I have learned that more time should be allotted for proper preparation for this assignment. I also added stress calculations because I forgot those on the last assignment.

Ashley Spicer: I really like how your design has come together! Your pictures were clear and I can tell that you have planned this out and are passionate about this idea.
Beren Hollingsworth: I really liked your overall website design, however, Assignment 5 was not up at 11:59pm on 12/01/2020
